Retail Conversion Project Commences

The next phase of the retail conversion project on Thomson Place is underway, commencing on Monday, September 21st 2020.

Invesco/Crosspoint is converting the ground floor of the turn of the century brick-and-beam buildings from existing office space to retail at buildings 26-36 Thomson Place. Previous retail conversion on the street has brought Bartaco Boston, Trillium Fort Point, and Trader Joe’s Seaport to Thomson Place.

The project is being managed by Crosspoint Associates, lead by Lee Kennedy General Construction, and designed by Margulies Perruzzi Architects.

Trader Joe’s Grand Opening

Trader Joe’s opened Friday, October 25, 2019 to a line of customers down the block cheering at their excitement for a long-awaited grocery store to open in the Fort Point/Seaport neighborhood. Residents, workers and visitors to the area have been anticipating the opening since rumors first started that there was a full-service grocer coming to the neighborhood, something that has never existed in Seaport previously.

45 minutes prior to the Grand Opening, shoppers queued up. Staffers greeted customers with smiles and snacks. To celebrate the 500th Trader Joe’s opening in Boston style customers were entertained by a colonial era Minuteman band. After an enthusiastic welcome from the Store Captain, the first two customers in line were asked to hold the ribbon for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

And with that, the store is open for business daily 9am-9pm.

Lisa is an oil painter and principle instructor at the Fort Point Studio School which she founded in 2005. For many years her work has focused on still life and portraiture with subject matter ranging from cups to old garments. The renderings of dresses and jackets evolved initially out of portrait sittings with clients. As time went on, Lisa began putting less emphasis on naturalism and began incorporating pictorial elements such as grids, diagrams, stencils and repeat patterns into her work.

Spotlight: Dig Inn

Dig Inn is all about good, fresh food.

75% of the food they serve are vegetables but meat eaters have great options as well.  100% of the vegetables are locally grown on Dig’s own farm or one of the local 102 farmers they work closely with to ensure high food quality (local = within 300 miles of the restaurant).

The dialogue between Dig Inn and farmers begins with choosing what seeds go in the ground, ensuring that the food grown is specifically chosen for Dig Inn’s seasonal menu. The relationship between the farmers and Dig doesn’t stop there. Since the USDA certification for a farm to become organic is a multi-year and expensive process that can be cumbersome for a farm on their own, Dig pays the transitional farms the same price as the organic farms, so that they can be supported through the transition process and have the incentive to make the change permanently to a method that is better for us all: fewer chemicals on the food itself and crop rotation for the longevity and benefit of the land.

On their own farm in 2017 Dig harvested 31 different crops, totaling 21,000 pounds of produce for their own stores within 48 hours of being harvested. Some more noteworthy facts about food at Dig Inn:

–  In 2017 Dig donated 93,720 pounds of food (the equivalent of 78,109 meals).

–  Dig embraces “ugly produce” (often disposed of and not even offered to consumers) in 2017 nearly 1,157,000 pounds of blemished vegetables were used to create the dish Rescued Vegetable Salad.

–  Dig set the goal of buying over 1 million pounds of produce from 15 marginalized farmers in 2018, with the goal of supporting them succeed in an industry.

–  Annually 40% of food produced in the USA goes uneaten; Dig uses the entire vegetable stems, leaves and all to help minimize food waste.

–  Nutritional information for all items on their menu can be found on their website.

Dig Inn is located at 25 Thomson Place, open between 11 am – 9 pm.

Lisa Goren was born in California and raised in NYC. And yet she has dreamed of Polar landscapes since she was in her teens. Her first trip took her to Antarctica where she was inspired and captivated by the landscape. Later travels to Iceland, Alaska, increased her love for the Polar Regions. Her watercolors show an unfamiliar landscape in a new light. By using vibrant colors and taking risks with different surfaces, she makes the viewer reevaluate their understanding of both these landscapes and their beliefs in the potential of the medium. Her works create questions about the nature of abstraction and our planet as many of her pieces are representations of unfamiliar, threatened terrains.

Lisa’s work can be found in personal collections all over the world, from Australia to Iceland, and the United States. She was awarded a place on the 2013 voyage of The Arctic Circle, an artist residency sailing near the North Pole. This “trip of a lifetime” was chronicled in an article she wrote for the New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1PAO5mr) and led her to her next phase of her Polar work. She had two pieces in “Gaia – Les femmes et l’ecologie” in Paris to coincide with the COP21 Climate talks. Lisa has been working out of Boston, Massachusetts for the past 25 years and is a board member of the National Association of Women Artists (Mass. Chapter). She was named Artist-in-Residence for the South Shore Art Association, 2016-2018.
